What is Loving Spoonful?
Loving Spoonful is a non-profit agency that works to achieve a healthy food-secure community by facilitating fresh food access, skill development and community engagement in Kingston, Ontario. Through school garden programs, community kitchens, community gardens and delivery of surplus fresh food every day to over 40 shelters, meal programs and Fresh Food Market Stands, Loving Spoonful is reconnecting people with the healthy food they need to thrive.
Where will your Donation go?
Your Donation will support programs such as:
Grow a Row — gardeners & farmers grow extra for donation to those who need it most including clients in shelters, diners at hot meal programs and low-income adults and families
Fresh Food Delivery – over 100,000 lbs of fresh produce delivered annually to over 40 shelters, hot meal programs, pantries and drop-in centres and to 13 Fresh Food Market Stands that are strategically placed in lobbies of appropriate agencies so those who need fresh food most can take what they want – no questions asked.
Community Kitchens – people with barriers to healthy eating learn basic, affordable, easy cooking skills, share meals and build social inclusion through free multi-session workshops that make enough food to take home so the entire family is exposed to new, healthy foods.
The GROW Project – Primary school students learn about the food system, meet farmers, worms and their community. They plant, maintain and harvest their school gardens and celebrate with an annual School Salad Bar Celebration.
Kingston Community Garden Network – supporting Kingston’s 38 community gardens with supplies, advice, granting opportunities, approvals and lots of mulch.
Creating Good Food Policies – in conjunction with the Food Policy Council and many community partners, we are working to re-introduce hands-on food skills into Ontario school curriculum, to secure the Basic Income Guarantee & other initiatives.
